Designing a Study of Adult Accomplishment and Life Quality: A Report on Phase I of the Project TALENT 17-Year Follow-up Survey and TALENT Data Bank Maintenance Activities.
Steel, Lauri; Wise, Lauress L.
A project was undertaken to (1) develop plans for a fourth follow-up survey of Project Talent participants approximately seventeen years after their expected graduation from high school, and (2) facilitate user access to the data base. (Initiated in 1957, Project Talent is a longitudinal study regarding the educational, career, and personal experiences of a national sample of 400,000 men and women who were in high school in 1960.) The survey will involve collecting data from 32,000 participants in each of the four 1960 grade cohorts (9 through 12) for an overall total of 128,000. The survey will supplement data already available on career preparation and entry, with data on these individuals' development and establishment in their work and other adult roles and on the continuing role of education in preparing them for adult responsibilities. (This report primarily focuses on describing the procedures followed in carrying out the project activities and the results of these efforts. The activities included developing the survey goals and questionnaire, selecting the sample, developing plans for data collection and analysis, and improving user access to the data. The attachments include references used in determining primary survey research issues, a report on Project Talent advisory panel review, primary surveys research issues and related data constructs, the questionnaire, and the technical sampling plan.)
