This report provides a description of the education structures in the Member States of the European Community: Belgium, Denmark, Federal Republic of Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. All countries are similarly dealt with in order to facilitate comparisons among them. The topics covered include: responsibilities for education and administration in various countries plus a description of pre-school, primary and secondary education, and the total number of years required in each nation. Information about both public and private education is provided in the report. Figures displaying the structure of the education system of each country are included, as are a number of tables of statistical data. (DB)
