Schools with Alternatives.
Brown, William H.
This paper describes the evolution of the alternative education program at Spingarn High School in the District of Columbia. The intent of the alternative program is to provide a variety of self-actualizing learning experiences for students through diversifying scheduling and instruction. Curricular options include majors in art, music, the humanities, and other areas. Flexible scheduling allows for students to attend classes during the day and at night. Through cooperation with a neighboring technical school, vocational education is available to Spingarn students. College preparation and remedial work in reading and other basic skills are also offered. (Author/DS)
