Counseling for Career Development.
Tolbert, E. L.
The book is designed for a one-quarter or one-semester course in preparation programs for secondary school counselors, and it should be useful as well for career guidance workshops, institutes, and inservice education programs. The emphasis is on practical applications supported by relevant theory and research. Illustrative cases are presented, and programs are described within a framework of principles and practices which provide a foundation for keeping practice current in this rapidly evolving field. Organization of the book illustrates the helping process from identification of needs to final assessment of results. The first three chapters focus on foundations and suggest models for career guidance; the next two describe information systems. Four chapters describe and illustrate helping approaches. A chapter is devoted to each of three topics: use of support personnel, job placement, and evaluation for accountability. A 27-page bibliography supplements the text; the book is indexed both by author and by subject. (Author/AJ)
