Children's Interest Areas and Their Assessment.
Stangel, Gretchen
Assuming that one's interests affect what and how effectively one learns, school curricula should be developed in accordance with children's interests. Thus, an effective method for assessing these interests is necessary. An interest assessment device is being developed by the School Evaluation Project. It is designed for group assessment in the classroom and employs pictorial items in multiple choice format. Ten basic interest dimensions are hypothesized and will be extracted empirically through factor analysis. The instrument will be validated through extensive use by teachers in the field. Interest assessment techniques and weaknesses in existing instruments are discussed. (PR)
