The Midlands Directors' Forum: Professional Development, Networking, and Peer Support
Freeman, Nancy; Hackley, Sandra; Corning, Lisa
Young Children, v59 n2 p82-86 Mar 2004
Early childhood program directors must juggle many responsibilities while averting one crisis after another. Although directors have to be experts in multitasking, most often they assume their many responsibilities with little or no specialized training. This article describes how the authors created the Directors of the Midlands Development and Support Network--the Director's Forum to meet the needs of directors. The author launched the project through NAEYC's Membership Action Grant program. The goal was to provide directors with the information they need and to relieve some of the isolation that comes with moving into the director's office. Directors' perceptions of the project and the benefits they have obtained from participating in the forums are also presented.
