Until recently, there were few attempts to apply the assessment-center concept to education in the United Kingdom. The University of East London's center is one successful example. This paper discusses assessment and development centers' effectiveness in selecting the headteacher most appropriate for a particular school and identifying these administrators' development needs. Development and cost-reducing strategies are also discussed. (MLH)
