Organized for the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (Unesco) by contract with the International Council on Archives (ICA), this meeting concerning the Records and Archives Management Programme (RAMP) was attended by 14 experts invited from Unesco member countries. Following a brief introduction, summaries are provided of the following RAMP meeting activities: (1) the opening session; (2) the presentation of the working document and pursuant discussion; (3) a discussion of needs and trends, including unequal development of archives/records management programs, automation, conservation, training, and evaluation; and (4) the closing session. In addition, six recommendations developed as a result of the meeting are outlined. Four annexes or appendices include a list of activities, documents, and publications carried out within the framework of RAMP, which are organized according to policies and plans, guidelines, norms and standards, infrastructure development, specialized information systems, and training and education; the consultation agenda; a list of meeting participants; and the full text of opening session statements in English by Marjatta Okko and Hans Booms, and in French by Amadou A.
