This booklet, one of a series of teacher aids exploring the practical aspects of teaching, provides guidelines and techniques for encouraging spelling accuracy. Encoding English, the Initial Teaching Alphabet, understanding spelling, and the spellings of English sounds are discussed. Strategies for improving spelling include the use of wordlists, word brackets, riddles, spelling rules, and dictionary games.
