Living within the Media
Griffin, Erin
Yearbook of the National Society for the Study of Education, v104 n1 p1-4 Apr 2005
In this article, the author shares how media affects her as a teenager. The author says that media has such a relationship with the world today, specifically with teenagers like her. Media gives off so much information that can be valid or invalid, positive or negative. The media can persuade anyone to do something or to think a certain way. People learn from the media and they also get sucked into the media. She would say one of the most effective types of media is music. Music has been a great way for her to deal with life. She mentions that there are a mass amount of problems. The media can make those problems more difficult, adding more problems on top of problems with the expectations they present. She emphasizes that being a teenager is very difficult; they are blown away with the amount of opportunities out there, both bad and good. She shares that the media has affected her in so many ways and she's only 16. She admits that she blames the media for a lot of things and for helping her to be the strong independent person she is today.
