Perspectives on the Future: Identifying Potential Leaders through Pre-Admittance Assessment.
Veir, Carole A.
The Leadership Assessment Center process of selecting students for the Educational Administration Leadership Program at the University of Texas at Austin is described in this report. The process, involving an oral presentation, interview, standardized test of logical thinking, writing analysis, knowledge assessment, and leadership style assessment, is applicable to other program planning and career development programs. Data analysis of 180 students produced predictors of admission. Program strengths include minimal expense, a strong field orientation, minimal observer training, utilization of student information for identification of leadership success potential, and usefulness as a valid indicator of department effectiveness. Program outcomes are higher student placement rates and an increase in minority students. (LMI)
