ESPMENA Bulletin. Nos. 21 and 22, 1986.
ESPMENA Bulletin, n21 Jan 1986 n22 Aug 1986
The January and August, 1986, issues of the Bulletin of English for Special Purposes in the Middle East and North Africa (ESPMENA) include articles on instructional topics, techniques, and materials; book reviews; and professional notices and reports. "Some Comments on the Science Content of ESP" (E. Arnold) looks at scientists' opinions of the validity of science content in courses in English for scientific purposes. "Students' Reading Problems" (Diana Adams Smith) attempts to show that reading problems depend on the student's level, motivation, and needs, and the type of text. It focuses on two particular groups: secondary school girls and Allied Health students. "Law Cases as Input to EALP Materials" (Angele Tadros) discusses the use of court cases in a course on academic legal English. "LSP and Interlanguage: Interlanguage and LSP" (Larry Selinker) examines the interrelationship of interlanguage and instruction in languages for specific purposes, and the need for further research on that link. "Negotiating the ELTS Obstacle" (Peter Foster) examines the rationale and principles underlying the design of materials intended to help Sudanese learners pass the British Council's ELTS test battery and to develop skills for further education outside the Sudan.
