Makoni, Sinfree; Makoe, Pinky
Indian Journal of Applied Linguistics, v25 n1-2 p189-214 Jan-Dec 1999
Reports on an aspect of a larger project broadly examining the role of language in health care practices. Discusses the effects of dementia on the speech of an aging white Xhosa speaker in the context of a health care institution. Dementia has not been conclusively demonstrated in black Africans. Shows the effects of dementia on the responses elicited in three unstructured conversations over a 9-month period. (Author/VWL)
