The Education of the Film-Maker: An International View.
United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, Paris (France).
This book presents a world view of trends, needs, and potentials concerning the education of film and television directors, who are perceived as image makers who play a central role in the present and future sociocultural development of all societies. Work is based on the papers and discussions of a 1972 meeting, organized by UNESCO, on the education of the filmmaker for tomorrow's cinema. Topics included examine cinema and television as instruments of culture in contemporary society, cinema as a major art form, the education of the filmmaker as both artist and craftsperson, ethical and legal considerations, technological and social influences, programs existing in different parts of the world for the education of the filmmaker, current trends and concepts in cinema education, new materials for film and television instructions, and future directions and curricula which are relevant to different cultural needs. Contents are organized according to the country discussed; an appendix lists the names of program participants. (Author/KS)
