Aromatic Bagels: An Edible Resonance Analogy

Two Lewis structures, resonance contributors, are used to describe benzene (the Kekule structure) in order to explain resonance theory to chemistry students. The students could create two bagel halves representing the Kekule structures of benzene in which the numbered toothpicks corresponds to the carbon atoms in the two structures and the x electrons are represented by regions of cream cheese.
