The college president is an educator first, a public teacher and model citizen second, and only incidentally a scholar, fund raiser, manager, lobbyist, and cheerleader. The campus is a guardian of public discourse, with teaching and discourse linking the campus and community. The president's first task is to force periodic examination of the institution's mission and of moral values. (MSE)
