Service learning is a form of experiential learning designed to engage students, faculty, and community partners in a mutually beneficial experience. Specifically, it "is a credit-bearing, educational experience in which students participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs and reflects on the service activity in such a way as to gain further understanding of course content, a broader appreciation of the discipline, and an enhanced sense of civic responsibility." This article discusses service learning as a pedagogical approach that is designed to serve the dual purposes of teaching and learning while fostering a lifelong commitment to social responsibility. It also examines opportunities that exist within the discipline of business law for a synergistic educational experience among students, faculty, the university, and the local community in which these partners reside.
