The Battling 'Bots of Bloomsburg High
Gorman, Lynn
Tech Directions, v66 n6 p14-17 Jan 2007
In this article, the author describes how students in Kirk Marshall's industrial technology class at Bloomsburg Area High School, Pennsylvania, designed and manufactured battling robots (BattleBots) and their participation in an annual national robotics competition. According to Marshall, designing and building a complex robot would be virtually impossible without CAD/CAM capabilities. In 2006, Marshall's students finished the tournament with a sweep in the Mini Robot division, taking first, second, and third place. They also earned an award for the "Best Documentation" and another for the "Coolest Robot" in the mini class. In addition, their big robot "X" finished its tournament in 6th place. Work on the robotics competition has given Marshall's students great experience.
