Classic to Contemporary: Famous Artists and Activities. A Teacher's Guide Featuring 19 Famous Artists' Biographies and Enrichment/Research Activities.
Kinghorn, Harriet; Lewis-Spicer, Lisa
By studying the lives, important achievements, and works of famous artists, students may come to understand what those artists hoped to communicate to the world. By participating in art activities that are related to these artists' styles, students practice skills of observing, analyzing, and creating. This instructional guide provides biographical information about 19 artists, followed by a corresponding art activity, and an evaluation sheet requiring critical response. Artists introduced include: Rosa Bonheur, Margaret Bourke-White, Leonardo Da Vinci, Paul Gauguin, Francisco Goya, Katsushika Hokusai, Edward Hopper, Paul Klee, Michaelangelo, Louise Nevelson, Pablo Picasso, Raphael, Frederic Remington, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Diego Rivera, Norman Rockwell, Henri Rousseau, Rachel Ruysch, and Toulouse-Lautrec. Student project report forms, extension activities, a glossary, and a bibliography conclude the guide. (MM)
