These tests are designed to measure the achievement of each pupil at the approximate midpoint of each unit in "Artes Latinae," Level 1, Book 1. They were produced in response to the need expressed by many teachers to provide a means of more frequent evaluation of pupil progress. Tests for 13 units are provided. They supplement the unit tests produced to accompany Artes Latinae by the Encyclopedia Britannica Education Corporation, and may also be used as classroom exercises. Test questions, which call for written responses, consist mostly of fill-in-the-blanks, questions to be answered in Latin, descriptions to be made, nouns to be declined, syntactic and morphological changes, and English words with Latin roots to be identified.
