Facilitating the Collection and Dissemination of Information to Parents of Children in a Child Care Program.
de Armas, Maria P.
To improve conditions at a nonprofit day care center serving low-income, mainly non-English-speaking families, this practicum addressed the need of recently immigrated parents to increase their knowledge of child development and available community resources. A total of 52 Hispanic parents were given materials at an information distribution area of the center and also received a monthly newsletter. Responses to questionnaires designed to evaluate increases in parents' knowledge indicated that most participants felt that their knowledge of child development and community agencies had increased. Appendices provide related materials, including a transcript of an interview with the center director which was designed to identify problems; the parent evaluation questionnaire, in English and Spanish versions; histograms of parents' responses to evaluation questions; a list of community resources; and sample copies of newsletters, also in English and Spanish.
