Specialty Animal Production Curriculum Guide for Vocational Agriculture/Agribusiness. Curriculum Development. Bulletin No. 1806.
University of Southwestern Louisiana, Lafayette.
This curriculum guide was developed to aid vocational agriculture/agribusiness teachers in Louisiana in improving their instruction and to provide students with the opportunity to obtain skills and knowledge in the production of nontraditional specialty animals. The guide covers the techniques of production, management, care, and marketing of specialty animals. Animals included in the eight units of the curriculum are crawfish, catfish, bees, crickets and worms for bait, rabbits, bobwhite quail, pheasants, and dairy goats. Each unit begins with a brief introduction, competencies, general and specific performance objectives, methodology, suggested interest approaches, and a unit outline. Specific objectives are included for each topic. The content is organized to facilitate a logical presentation of information. Suggested student activities are provided for each objective to enable students to achieve the objective. Appendixes containing materials for visual aids are provided for some units. Each unit also includes unit tests and answer sheets, recommendations for evaluation and testing, a list of needed equipment and supplies, supplementary materials, and a resource section. (KC)
