Fostering the Teenager. Instructor's Manual.
Loppnow, Donald M.
One of a series of manuals for the Foster Parent Training Project, this workbook has been developed at Eastern Michigan University to assist instructors in presenting to foster parent trainees information concerning problems of living with adolescent foster children. In 10 sessions foster parents are encouraged to (1) increase their understanding of the developmental process as it relates to teenagers, in order that they may more effectively help teenaged foster children become healthy adults; (2) develop a greater understanding of the behaviors which they may consider problems and develop a greater understanding of the consequences of these behaviors; (3) clarify how their own personal values and those of other adults affect whether the teenager is allowed to develop alternative values; (4) learn skills which will facilitate the adolescent's development into independent, responsible adulthood; and (5) determine available community resources for adolescents and their families and decide when to use them. An introduction to the instructor's manual is provided. In the lesson material instructions to the instructor are on colored paper. White pages are copies of the trainee manual. Instructor's material on these pages is in red ink. Information concerning normal child development, drugs, running away, and venereal disease is appended. (Author/RH)
