An Assessment of the Basic Curriculum Guide for Teaching Vocational Agriculture in Texas.
Brown, Herman D.
The major purpose of this study was to revise the basic production agriculture curriculum guide used by vocational agrculture teachers in Texas. A twenty-five member advisory committee for curriculum revision conducted the following activities: (1) obtained thirty-one curriculum guides for a technical agriculture program, (2) surveyed vocational teachers in Texas to determine their conceptions of the weaknesses and strengths of the basic curriculum guide, and (3) obtained instructional materials from textbook publishing companies and curriculum materials centers. Based on these activities, recommended changes for the curriculum guide were developed, and teachers were surveyed to determine their opinion of the sixty-two changes. A revised curriculum guide for teaching vocational agriculture in Texas was developed that incorporated the fields of animal science, plant science, soil science, agricultural mechanics, agricultural management, supervised experience programs, leadership development, opportunities in agriculture, and environmental protection and energy conservation. (The Basic Curriculum Guide for Production Agriculture in Texas, as revised, is appended.) (LRA)
