McMahon, Cynthia J. Moore
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Capella University
The purpose of this research is to determine if the use of soft skills requirements in job posting advertisements for information technology professional positions has increased since the dissertation study by G. K. Tannnahill in 2007, titled "Study of Soft Skills for IT Workers in Recruitment Advertising," to support prior research indicating these are a necessary skill set requirement for success. Research has shown an increase in the need for soft skills in managing a new generation of information technology employees. For project success, research has shown soft skills such as leadership skills are critical. Research has shown that organizations do have concerns over the level of communication and relationship skills from the pool of new applicants. A study was conducted from online job posting advertisements from the major online information technology recruiting sites. The major findings were the discovery of the majority of the job posting advertisements for information technology positions did include soft skills requirements and of these the non-management level positions advertisements contained the largest number of soft skills requirements.
