This book is designed as a resource for educators who want their students to read, write, share, build, communicate, and contribute using telecommunications. The book is divided into six chapters. Chapter 1--"How To Use the Internet...Real Fast" gives an overview of top educator, parent, and kid sites on the World Wide Web. Chapter 2--"What's Behind Those Links?" gives an in depth "virtual tour" of two sites, the Global SchoolNet Foundation and the Digital Education Network, both of which have ideas, projects, and activities to use in the classroom. Chapter 3--"Sites That Motivate, Engage and Stimulate Students and Educators" contains links to lessons, tips, and strategies to integrate the Internet into the class curriculum, with sites categorized according to daily, weekly, and monthly offerings, and according to grade levels. Chapter 4--"Internet Projects That Really Work" looks at eight successful telecommunications projects on the Internet. Chapter 5--"Searching and Finding Information for the Busy Educator" shows tips on searching for and finding information that educators and students need and want. Chapter 6--"Publish or Perish...No One Knows What You've Done Until You've Told Them" lists 25 reasons why every school should have a web site, and sources for help for creating a web site.
