The Road to Recovery: Projecting U.S. Job Growth and Higher Education Demand through 2020
Carnevale, Anthony; Smith, Nicole; Strohl, Jeff
Community College Journal, v84 n3 26-29 Dec 2013-Jan 2014
By 2020, 65 percent of all jobs in the economy will require postsecondary education and training beyond high school. That's a pretty strong statement in defense of the value of higher education in this country. But it will mean little unless the nation's colleges and universities--and, specifically, community colleges--can produce more workers with postsecondary credentials. In this article, Carnevale, Smith, and Strohl present six key indicators from their research and highlight the latest in education and employment needs. The author's analysis is followed by profiles of successful middle-skill workforce training programs and insights from industry leaders in the article "Promising College and Workforce Partnerships: Connecting Students with Careers."
