The Critic as Rhetor: Psychiatry and Fantasy Theme Analysis.
Vatz, Richard E.; Weinberg, Lee S.
Journal of Communication, v37 n4 p163-70 Fall 1987
Examines Barbara Sharf's article analyzing public commentary about psychiatrists generated by the Hinkley trial and finds that dominant media messages elicit undeserved negative fantasy themes concerning psychiatry. Argues that fantasy theme analysis offers rhetorical critics a framework for examining process by which the meaning of world events is transmitted, and that Sharf has misapplied this theory. Sharf responds briefly. (MM)
