This book is an energy, electricity, and science resource guide for teachers of grades K-3. The types of energy covered are: coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear energy, renewable energy sources, electricity and food. Thirty-one interdisciplinary energy lessons are the heart of the book. Each lesson is teacher tested and can be incorporated into the agenda for mathematics, social studies, or science instruction. The lesson format highlights all of the information needed to assess at a glance the lesson's place in an instructional program. All the lessons are tied into the National Energy Foundation's conceptual framework for energy education. Each lesson is keyed to a specific energy concept within the framework's broad categories: energy sources, uses and applications of energy, energy forms and conversions, environmental and economic impacts, limits of energy resources and supply, energy future, and energy conservation and management. Contents of each individual lesson are: disciplines addressed (science, art, language arts, etc.); appropriate grade level; time required; concept addressed; activity goal; materials needed; "what to do"; and evaluation idea. Background information is provided to help teachers answer student questions. Activities accompanying the lessons include: quizzes;"lingo" (a form of bingo related to terms); games; puzzles; a play; energy checklists). Fifteen similar activities are included in a section "just for fun." An energy glossary concludes the document. All activities are reproducible for classroom use. (PR)
