Drugs and Personality: Personality Correlates and Predictors of Non-Opiate Drug Use. Research Issues 14.
Austin, Gregory A., Ed.; And Others
This collection of abstracts from current research and theoretical studies explores various aspects of the relationship between non-opiate drug use and personality. The literature covers a period from 1968 through 1975 and focuses on tests that were conducted on adolescents and college students from the United States, Canada and Sydney, Australia. Each abstract conveys what was done, why it was done, what methodology was employed, what results were found and what conclusions were derived from the results. As many as 59 different types of testing instruments were used to determine if a subject's personality trait (e.g., sensation-seeking, emotional instability, insufficient ego strengths, etc.) would lead to the use of drugs such as alcohol, LSD, marihuana and amphetamines. A supplemental bibliography of additional reading is also included in the volume along with several indexes designed to meet the needs and interests of further researchers. (Author/JMF)
