This guide chronicles the ongoing work and writings of the Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago, a policy research center dedicated to bringing sound information, rigorous analyses, innovative ideas, and an independent, multidisciplinary perspective to bear on policies and programs affecting children. This guide, organized by major research area, presents an overview of the research and policy issues involved, describes Chapin Hall research in the area, and lists projects and publications in the area. Chapin Hall's research agenda currently includes the following major areas: (1) children's services, including child welfare, the juvenile court, and children's health and well-being; (2) primary supports for child and youth development, concerning community-based resources such as parks, community centers, arts programs, and sports leagues; (3) community building, focusing on development, documentation, and evaluation of community-building initiatives designed to make communities more supportive of children and families; (4) schools' connections with other organizations, examining the range of institutions that foster children's learning and development, including schools, businesses, services, communities, and the relationships among them; (5) international projects, covering policy issues, researchers, and research centers in other countries; and (6) special projects and consultations.
