This book and others in the Changes in the Environment Series were produced as part of the GLOBE-NET Project, a partnership of science teachers and research scientists working on various aspects of global change. This book contains up-to-date information about Lyme disease, activities for the classroom, and other resources useful in teaching about the disease and global change. Sections of this sourcebook include: Frequently Asked Questions About Lyme Disease; Lyme Disease Timeline; Lyme Disease Glossary; Major Concepts; and Student Activities including geography of Lyme disease, life cycle of the tick, bean tics--taking a census, natural selection, diagnosing Lyme disease, exploring urbanization and the spread of Lyme disease, predicting possible vectors, crossword puzzles, communicating about Lyme disease, and searching the literature for information about Lyme disease. Appendices contain references and teaching resources, assessment of student achievement, black-line masters for transparencies, and organizations involved in Lyme disease education and research.
