The Economic Contribution of Canada's Community Colleges and Technical Institutes: An Analysis of Investment Effectiveness and Economic Growth. Volume 1: Main Report
Robison, M. Henry; Christophersen, Kjell A.
Association of Canadian Community Colleges
The purpose of this study is to estimate the economic benefits generated by Canada's Community Colleges and Technical Institutes. Of the approximately 150 such colleges, the authors have completed detailed studies on roughly a third of these, or some 48 individual colleges. For the purposes of the present study, the results from this sub-sample of 48 colleges to make inference to all 150 colleges in the nation were used. This subsample of colleges and institutes represents 9 different provinces in Canada. The report has four chapters and four appendices. Chapter 1 is an overview of the benefits measured and the analytical approach. Chapter 2 presents underlying data, mainly collected from the 48 sub-sample colleges, and details on the major assumptions underlying the analysis. Chapter 3 presents the results of the investment analysis--the returns to students and the taxpayers. In Chapter 4 the impact of Canada's Colleges and Institutes on economic growth in both the region and the nation is considered. Appended are: (1) Glossary of Terms; (2) Adjusting for the Benefits Available Absent Provincial/Territorial Government Support; (3) Explaining the Results--A Primer; and (4) Overview of the Input/Output Model. (Contains 52 footnotes and 30 tables and figures.) [This document was prepared by CCbenefits Inc. for the Association of Canadian Community Colleges.]
