Partners in Quality: Facilitator's Guide = Partenaires Pour la Qualite.
Beckman, Sandra
Partners in Quality is a research and development project sponsored by the Canadian Child Care Federation and its affiliates to explore how child care providers, parents, and other partners can work together to support and improve quality in child care. This facilitator's guide is designed to help facilitators prepare and deliver workshops based on a six-booklet series. Although there are ten 1.5-hour workshops detailed in the guide, the guide provides suggestions for delivering the material in a variety of workshop formats. Workshop topics relate to child care relationships, infrastructure, and communities; and tools for child care practitioners and administrators are also presented. The workshop topics are: (1) "Families: Establishing the Connection"; (2) "The Culture Barrier, Establishing the Connection, Reflection"; (3) "Impact of the Infrastructure"; (4) "Influencing the Infrastructure of Child Care Programs and the Broader Child Care Infrastructure"; (5) "Why Have Community Partnerships?"; (6) "How To Build Community Partnerships"; (7) "Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics for Child Care Practitioners"; (8) "Guide to Self-Reflection for Child Care Practitioners"; (9) "Standards for Quality Child Care Programs"; and (10) "Standards of Practice for Administrators of Child Care Programs." The guide's introduction details steps for leading large and small group discussions and promoting the workshops. Each workshop is organized in the following sections: icebreaker activities, activities to introduce the specific topic, large and small group activities, debriefing suggestions, and tips for closing remarks with follow-up activities. Activity options include case studies analysis, small- and large-group discussions, brainstorming, role play, and short lectures. Suggestions for participant and facilitator self-evaluation are provided. The facilitator's guide is supplemented with a set of photocopy-ready handouts and overheads.(KB)
