I Have a Voice!

In this article, the author describes the opportunities she had for putting her cultural and language skills to use. She shares her experiences at the Asian Voices of Organized Youth for Community Empowerment (A-VOYCE) program and at the Participatory Chinatown project. The author never thought that learning about her identity and using what she knows from her own experiences could actually contribute to the community. Now she is certain that knowledge of life in two countries and exposure to two cultures helps her be a leader, both for her parents and the Chinese immigrant community in Boston. She thinks she has an advantage in that she is multilingual and multicultural, and she hopes to use her special background to continue to make a difference for everyone.
