The Handbook of Canadian Film. Second Edition.
Beattie, Eleanor
The core of this book consists of 131 short entries on individual Canadian filmmakers, arranged in alphabetical order, with filmographies and suggestions for further reading. The majority of the filmmakers who are described are directors; other members of the film community--producers, sound engineers, camera operators, and so on--are discussed in various articles throughout the book. For film students, "An Introduction to Canadian Film" provides a historical framework, offers a general perspective, and identifies works on the Canadian film industry. For filmmakers, the section "Making Films" lists sources for financing and for technical assistance. Teachers and librarians may find the sections "Using Films" and "Film Publications" and the bibliography most useful. In addition to the category "Film Study," the following new sections have been included in this revised second edition: "Community Film and Video,""Native People and Film,""Political and Third World Films," and "Women in Film."
