This curriculum guide contains a listing of all common-core competencies that should be taught in Arizona community colleges in order to prepare students to meet the requirements of basic and refresher emergency medical technician training. Identified through a statewide project, the competencies cover the following topics: introduction to emergency care training; airway obstruction and respiratory arrest; cardiac arrest; mechanical aids to breathing and resuscitation; bleeding, shock, and practice in airway care, pulmonary resuscitation, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation; wounds; fractures in upper extremities and lower extremities; injuries of the head, face, neck, and spine; injuries of the eye, chest, abdomen, and genitalia; medical emergencies (two sections); emergency childbirth; environmental emergencies; lifting and moving patients; extrication from automobiles; daily routines on the job; and responding to an ambulance call. These general topics are broken down into specific competencies, and the time needed to teach each competency is suggested. (KC)
