Scaffolding and Support through Information Literacy: Reimagining a Geography of Sport Class Project
Brazer, Susan E.; de Socio, Mark
Geography Teacher, v18 n1 p39-44 2021
This article presents a technique for interweaving information literacy (IL) into a pre-existing assignment of an introductory general education human geography course. The course, titled Geography of Sport, represents a unique opportunity to introduce students to contemporary methods of geographical study and analysis through a range of activities centered around the theme of sport and place and presumes no prior geographic knowledge. Other geography classes could readily lend themselves to a similar integration of information literacy through the revamping and scaffolding of an existing class assignment or the creation of an entirely new assignment, using concepts and techniques similar to the ones presented here.
