Using Sport Education to Implement a CrossFit Unit
Sibley, Benjamin A.
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, v83 n8 p42-48 Oct 2012
The sport education (SE) model has been used extensively to teach sports at the middle and high school levels, and the flexibility of the model has been demonstrated in its application to fitness units as well. Infusing new content into this well-established and familiar curricular model can increase student motivation and interest while maintaining consistency in the program and maintaining the positive outcomes sport education provides. CrossFit is a vastly popular fitness and conditioning program that embraces the idea of "fitness as sport," which is still a relatively novel concept. This article explains how CrossFit workouts can be used as the basis for competition in the SE model to create a fun and challenging fitness-based sport season for middle and high school students.
