Researching into Learning Resources in Colleges and Universities. The Practical Research Series.
Higgins, Chris; Reading, Judy; Taylor, Paul
This book examines issues and methods for conducting research into the educational resource environment in colleges and universities. That environment is defined as whatever is used to facilitate the learning process, including learning space, support staff, and teaching staff. Chapter 1 is an introduction to the series and lays out the process of action research. Chapter 2 focuses on the resource environment and its effects on curriculum design and methods of course delivery. Chapter 3 considers the institutional context for research in learning resources, particularly in changing institutional environments. Chapter 4 focuses on the links between resources and teaching and new technologies for teaching. Chapter 5 looks at the student as a principal stakeholder in the education process and applies the market metaphor to education. Chapter 6 explores the evaluation of the resource environment and the assessment of its effects on student learning. Chapter 7 is a practical guide to the process of publishing research results. (Individual chapters contain references.) (JLS)
