Calm, Cool, and Comfortable in Clay
Stylianou, Xanthippi Cynthia
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v109 n9 p40 May-Jun 2010
The author's fourth-grade students had just finished a drawing unit that focused on the human figure. Projects included charcoal gesture drawings and chalk manikin drawings in chiaroscuro. She wanted to integrate a new medium for students to continue their study of the human figure. Since students are always excited to work with clay, making clay figures seemed like the next best step in their study of the human figure. This article offers information on the preparation, instructions, and the finishing procedures for this clay art project. (Contains 1 online resource.)
