Implementation of Open and Closed Kinetic Chain Quadriceps Strengthening Exercises after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction.
Ross, Michael D.; Denegar, Craig R.; Winzenried, Jay A.
Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, v15 n4 p466-73 Nov 2001
Reviews the effects of open kinetic chain (OKC) and closed kinetic chain (CKC) exercise on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) strain and patellofemoral joint stress, suggesting a combination of the two for quadriceps strengthening after ACL reconstruction. Both OKC and CKC exercises may be modified and implemented for quadriceps strengthening after ACL reconstruction without causing excessive ACL strain or joint stress. (SM)
