A Feasibility Study of Implementing Professional Learning Communities in a K-8 School District

The purpose of this study was to determine the specific needs of the New Horizons School District when implementing professional learning communities. The findings were: (1) teachers do not have a clear understanding of professional learning communities, (2) administrators have a clear understanding of professional learning communities, (3) teachers believe that there is a positive school culture, one conducive to the development of professional learning communities, (4) teachers and administrators believe administrative leadership is shared and collaborative, (5) teachers and administrators believe the decision-making process is collaborative, (6) time/current schedule is an obstacle the district might face when implementing professional learning communities, (7) a tight financial budget might influence professional development opportunities and (8) lack of resources may impact the implementation of professional learning communities.
