Moore, C. Missy; Foxx, Sejal Parikh – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2021
Using a multiphased and mixed method approach to instrument development, the ISS-C was composed of 16 items extracted into four factors, which demonstrated adequate model fit. The ISS-C scores showed good internal consistency, convergent validity, and temporal stability, while some aspects of discriminant validity remain suboptimal.

Moore, C. Missy; Crawford, Carey C.; Tertichny, Alissa – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
We examined dimensionality and temporal stability of the Interpersonal Stress Scale-Counselor (ISS-C) scores in a sample of professional counselors (n = 518). Confirmatory factor analyses provided support for a four-factor model previously identified through exploratory factor analysis and a bifactor model. Using a randomized test-retest, temporal…

Bouck, Emily C.; Cosby, Missy D. – Preventing School Failure, 2019
Response to Intervention (RtI) is a multitiered system of support, designed to improve student learning outcomes and early identification of struggling students. Much attention has been paid to RtI for literacy at the elementary level, but less on RtI for mathematics at the secondary level. The current case study examines one high school's…

Butts, C. Missy; Gutierrez, Daniel – Counselor Education and Supervision, 2018
The authors examined the influence of dispositional mindfulness and personal distress on counseling self-efficacy among 162 counseling students. Results indicated that dispositional mindfulness and personal distress accounted for significant variance in counseling self-efficacy. These findings suggest that internal dispositions may facilitate or…

Moore, C. Missy; Mullen, Patrick R.; Hinchey, Kaitlin J.; Lambie, Glenn W. – Counselor Education and Supervision, 2023
Our study examines the differential item functioning of the Counselor Competencies Scale--Revised (CCS-R) scores due to respondents' gender, the type of evaluation, and a combination of these two variables using a large sample (N = 1614). Implications of the findings are offered to inform counselor educators and supervisors using the CCS-R and…

Cosby, Missy; Horton, Akesha; Berzina-Pitcher, Inese – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 2017
The MSUrbanSTEM fellowship program aims to support science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educators teaching in an urban context. In this chapter, we used a multiple case studies methodology to examine the qualitatively different ways three urban mathematics educators implemented a yearlong project in their mathematics classrooms…

Macartney, Bernadette; Morton, Missy – International Journal of Inclusive Education, 2013
This paper presents narratives from two parents about the exclusion of their disabled children within early childhood and primary school settings. Interpretations of particular "kinds of participation" that appear to be accepted as inclusive are explored. We argue that these interpretations have disabling effects on the children's…

Depression is one of the leading mental health concerns among science undergraduates, and rates of student depression increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Revealing one's depression in an academic science environment can be helpful, because it can result in increased support from others. However, depression is considered a concealable…

Mitchell-Williams, Missy T.; Skipper, Antonius D.; Alexander, Marvin C.; Wilks, Scott E. – Research on Social Work Practice, 2017
Purpose: Following up an "Research on Social Work Practice" article published a decade ago, this study aimed to examine reference error rates among five, widely circulated social work journals. Methods: A stratified random sample of references was selected from the year 2013 (N = 500, 100/journal). Each was verified against the original…

Martin, Maureen K; Wright, Lindsay Elizabeth; Perry, Susan; Cornett, Daphne; Schraeder, Missy; Johnson, James T. – Child Language Teaching and Therapy, 2016
Research into intervention strategies for developmental verbal dyspraxia (DVD) clearly demonstrates the need to identify effective interventions. The goals of this study were to examine changes in articulation skills following the use of phonetic, multimodal intervention and to consider the relationship between these improved articulation skills…

Inman, Dean P.; Loge, Ken; Cram, Aaron; Peterson, Missy – Journal of Special Education Technology, 2011
This research project studied the effect that a technology-based training program, WheelchairNet, could contribute to the education of children with physical disabilities by providing a chance to practice driving virtual motorized wheelchairs safely within a computer-generated world. Programmers created three virtual worlds for training. Scenarios…

Anxiety is the top mental health concern for undergraduates. While researchers have identified ways that in-person science courses can affect anxiety, little is known about how online science courses affect anxiety. In this study, 2111 undergraduates at a large research-intensive institution completed survey questions about their anxiety in…
