Lee, Sik-Yum – Psychometrika, 1980
This paper demonstrates the feasibility of using the penalty function method to estimate parameters that are subject to a set of functional constraints in covariance structure analysis. Both types of inequality and equality constraints are studied. The approaches of maximum likelihood and generalized least squares estimation are considered.…

Muir, Albert E. – Research in Higher Education, 1980
The logical sequence of one set of propositions regarding the association among proposal output, negotiated indirect cost rates, and overhead recovery, using a sample of 24 institutions of higher education within the SUNY system, is investigated. A model for estimating overhead a year in advance is presented. (Author/MLW)

Weeks, David G. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1980
A reanalysis of a structural equation model of the development of intellectual abilities is presented. The original model emphasized four different constructs of intelligence; the reanalysis emphasized a general factor model. (Author/JKS)

Cronkite, Ruth C.; Moos, Rudolf H. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1980
Results illustrate the usefulness of a conceptual model for assessing the interrelationships among pretreatment, and posttreatment variables and outcome. This approach facilitates the unraveling of these complex interrelationships by allowing for examination of the cumulative influences of prior variables on subsequent variables. (Author/BEF)

Runyan, William McKinley – Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 1980
Stage-state analysis of the life course is presented as useful in identifying types of life courses and their relative frequency, in estimating the likelihood of moving from a given state through a sequence of future states, and in analyzing routes and processes connecting initial states with potential outcomes. (Author/DB)

Schwarzer, Ralf – Studies in Educational Evaluation, 1980
Four approaches to prediction of learning success are described and discussed: the two-point model and the technique of multiple regression; the learning test model; the contingency model and the technique of time-series analysis; and the causally defined multipoint model and the technique of path analysis. Magidson, Jay – Evaluation Quarterly, 1977
Path analysis was used to reevaluate the analysis of covariance quasiexperimental study of the effectiveness of the Head Start program. Contrary to the original analysis, the alternative approach yields small positive estimates of effect. (Author/CTM)

Robinson, Robert V.; Bell, Wendell – American Sociological Review, 1978
A causal model that explains variations in individual judgements concerning the fairness of equality or inequality, based on a new Index of Evaluated Equality, is proposed. (Author/AM)

Lewis-Beck, Michael S. – American Political Science Review, 1977
Argues that comparison of "effects coefficients" derived from path analysis is the preferred method of assessing the relative impact of different independent variables on a given dependent variable. Available from: American Political Science Association, 1527 New Hampshire Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20036; $10.50 single copy.…

Turner, Charles F. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1975
Methods for the path analysis of complex (i.e., not fully recursive) causal models are briefly discussed. A computer program which simplifies analysis of such models and provides an option for automatically deleting marginal paths is described. (Author)

Kitahara, Michio – Adolescence, 1982
Studies two determinants of male puberty rites: communitywide exclusive male work groups and polygyny which act as an extension of male subculture; and sexual integration in the division of labor and distant father-child relationship which act to reduce the distance between the sexes. (Author/RC)

Burke, Michael J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1982
A model was proposed to examine the effects of mathematical aptitude and academic orientation on performance. The calculated path coefficients did not strongly support the model. Mathematical aptitude has a direct effect on college performance, whereas the effect of academic orientation was mediated by high school performance and mathematical…

Skinner, Ellen A.; Belmont, Michael J. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1993
Effects of the involvement, classroom structure, and autonomy support of 14 teachers on the behavioral and emotional engagement of 144 third through fifth graders were studied across a school year. Results suggest that behaviorally disengaged students receive teacher responses that should further undermine motivation. (SLD)
