The Baha'i Faith, which was founded in 1863, holds as its purpose the awakening of humanity to invisible possibilities, providing humankind with conscious direction and hope vis-a-vis the challenges and perplexities of time (Rosen, 2010). The Baha'i writings explain that spiritual forces are the foundation of reality and that the Word of God is the source of human life and civilization (Dunbar, 2009); thus, every religion provides teachings that enlighten humanity, bringing humanity closer to a spiritualized world. The prophet-founder of the Baha'i Faith, Baha'u'llah, taught that humanity, after a turbulent adolescence, is reaching a stage of maturity in which global unity and a just society can be established. Baha'is are actively involved in trying to create a civilization in which individuals and society's institutions see the need for every human being to develop his or her individual potential. This chapter describes the development of a Baha'i international adult education program designed so that community service is both process and outcome. Particular emphasis is on the preparation of adult tutors.
