Evaluation of the Wonders in Nature-Wonders in Neighborhoods Conservation Education Program: Stakeholders Gone Wild!
Somers, Cindy
New Directions for Evaluation, n108 p29-46 Win 2005
Wonders in Nature-Wonders in Neighborhoods ((W.I.N.-W.I.N.) has been providing wild-life related conservation education to schoolchildren throughout the Denver metropolitan area since 1996. Specifically designed for students in early childhood education classes through fifth grade, W.I.N.-W.I.N. is intended to heighten children's awareness and understanding of the natural world. The W.I.N.-W.I.N. program is an excellent illustration of the myriad relationships that can exist between nonformal education providers and their clients or audiences. At the broadest level, it illustrates a group of nonformal educational organizations (the Denver Zoo, the Colorado Division of Wildlife, and the thirty-nine partner sites) delivering educational services to a formal education client (twenty-five elementary schools in the metropolitan Denver area). Using this complex and multifaceted program as a case study, this article illustrates the various ways in which stakeholders can be involved in the development and implementation of an evaluation system in a setting that crosses formal and nonformal education boundaries.
