Wiggins, Alexis
Educational Leadership, v74 n4 p76-79 Dec 2016
Wiggins, who has taught in international schools in many countries, describes facets of curriculum, pedagogy, and diverse school communities characteristic of international schools that help forge global-ready graduates. While teaching an interdisciplinary course at the Hong Kong International School, she realized that using internationally diverse texts--including books, drama, films and more--made for dynamic learning that gave her young learners familiarity with global cultures. Wiggins also found that assessment practices common at such schools help create inclusive classrooms where inquiry is encouraged. She shares concrete strategies any teacher can use to instill this kind of international content, globally inclusive curriculums and student-friendly assessment into their teaching, without traveling abroad themselves.
