Social Media and the Job Hunt
Greene, Katie
Educational Horizons, v90 n2 p26-27 Dec 2011-Jan 2012
As thousands of graduates search for new jobs each school year, networking with potential employers through social media sites can help preservice and new teachers connect with current teachers, learn about potential job openings, and engage in professional conversations. By using social media sites to follow trends in education, preservice teachers can stay up-to-date on educational policies and hot topics and identify where they would like to begin their teaching careers. Sites such as Facebook and Twitter allow people to post relevant news articles and other education tidbits. In addition, many national education organizations maintain pages on Facebook and other social media sites, connecting subscribers or "fans" with specific sites that align with their own interests. This article discusses how preservice and new teachers can use social media sites to their advantage to make connections and enhance their careers.
