What I Learned (and Didn't) at NCSS 2009
Risinger, C. Frederick
Social Education, v74 n4 p189-190 Sep 2010
In this article, the author shares what he learned at the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) Annual Meeting held in November 2009 in Atlanta. At NCSS 2009, the author realized how far behind he is with technological advances applied to classroom instruction. Many school districts and individual schools prevent students from using cell phones in school. Even more schools block social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. But many of the presentations the author saw in Atlanta and have read about during research for this paper are based on websites and software such as these. The author provides links to some of the software and other resources that he saw described and demonstrated at NCSS. He thinks that most classroom teachers will find some interesting information and potential lesson/project development tools.
